Gender Development and Globalization is the leading primer on global feminist economics and development. Gender is a development issue because social considerations are not easily incorporated into institutions such as policies, regulations, markets and organizations. This process is often referred to as the mainstreaming of gender in development institutions. Women are often in a disadvantaged position in terms of access to assets, services, information and formal decision-making status. Gender equality is considered a critical element in achieving Decent Work for All Women and Men, in order to effect social and institutional change that leads to sustainable development with equity and growth. Gender equality refers to equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities that all persons should enjoy, regardless of whether one is born male or female. Gender developmental scientists are concerned with age-related changes in gender typing, and more broadly, with many issues about the emergence and patterning of gendered behaviors and thinking. Description of these changes is vitally important as it informs theoretical approaches to gender development. Using a broad lens on age-related changes provides important information describing how development occurs, but shorter time frames are also useful for identifying processes that may underlie developmental patterns. Gender has been increasingly acknowledged as a critical variable in analysis and development planning. Gender is an expression of power in social relationship between men and women. The book will be very useful to academicians, researchers, planners, students, NGOs, civil societies and all those who are interested in women studies in general and gender issues in contexts in particular.

Gender planning is not an end in itself but a means by which women, through a process of empowerment, can emancipate themselves. Ultimately, its success depends on the capacity of women's organizations to confront subordination and create successful alliances which will provide constructive support in negotiating women's needs at the level of household, civil society, the state and the global system. Gender Planning and Development provides an introduction to an issue of primary importance and constant debate. It will be essential reading for academics, practitioners, undergraduates and trainees in anthropology, development studies, women's studies and social policy.

Wissenschaftlicher Aufsatz aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Beziehungen und Familie, ( Atlantic International University ), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Gender and development continues to be one of the major concerns of our time. It requires respective governments and community leaders to embrace gender and development for the good of our communities. Women have generally been put aside in the areas of planning, allocation of resources and decision making which have deprived society of a potential human capital. Ever since historical times, men and women have not walked at the same strides. This is evidenced in the areas of commerce, politics, social and economic spheres. They have not lived in the required harmony, yet they are meant to live beside each other to achieve the best out of the natural resources. They should play a complementally role of combining other factors of production for their own benefit. Men have however taken a lead in arenas that benefit him and left what he feels is invariably of less value to the woman. Society has put man in an advantaged position that creates his superiority over the woman through their roles and responsibilities they perform.
