Environmental Education In Indonesia written by Lyn Parker and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-08 with Education categories.

Indonesia’s wealth of natural resources is being exploited at breakneck speed, and environmental awareness and knowledge among the populace is limited. This book examines how young people learn about the environment to see how education can help to develop environmental awareness and avert vast environmental destruction, not only in Indonesia, but also in the Global South more generally. Based on in-depth studies conducted in the cities of Yogyakarta and Surabaya, complemented with surveys of students in secondary schools, Environmental Education in Indonesia examines educational curricula, pedagogy and "green" activities to reveal what is currently being done in schools to educate children about the environment. The book investigates the shortcomings in environment education, including underqualified teachers, the civil service mentality, the still-pervasive chalk-and-talk pedagogy and the effect of the examination system. It also analyses the role of local government in supporting (or not) environmental education, and the contribution of environmental NGOs. The book establishes that young people are not currently being exposed to effective environmental education, and the authors propose that the best and most culturally appropriate way forward in Indonesia is to frame pro-environment behaviour and responsibility as a form of citizenship, and specifically that environmental education should be taught as a separate subject. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of contemporary Indonesia and Southeast Asia, education for sustainability and environmental education, as well as sustainability and sustainable development more generally. First Published in 2004. Young people, in particular, want to learn more about contributing to the conservation of the planet, and formal education is beginning to reflect this. The National Curriculum in England and Wales, for instance, includes environmental education as a compulsory cross-curricular theme, and in Australia and the USA there are similar moves to ensure that all students are given an opportunity to learn in this area. The authors, experienced teachers and teacher educators in primary and secondary schools, here explain what environmental education is and how it can best be implemented at school and classroom level. In this handbook, school heads and curriculum co-ordinators will find advice on establishing a whole school policy and motivating the staff who need to implement it. Class teachers will find practical ideas for planning and assessing environmental education in the whole curriculum context. Throughout the book, case studies drawn from a variety of settings allow teachers to see how environmental education can work for them.

This curriculum guideline for environmental education in Scottish schools is for levels 10-14, 14-16, and post-16. The rationale of the program is based on a belief of uneasiness of ordinary people about their environment, the relationship of people with their environment, a need for change, a lack of current progress, the need to teach for the environment, and the development of an environmental ethic. The aim of the curriculum is identified as "education in and through the environment, education about the environment, and education for the environment." The guiding principles are based on: an ecocentric and concentric approach; a holistic view; a coherent, continuous, and progressive lifelong process; direct experience; interdisciplinary character; environmental issues; problem solving; a variety of teaching and learning approaches; being pupil centered; outward looking; generating action; and being exemplary. Course topics are developed for primary, secondary, and post-16 levels. Collaboration between environmental organizations is stressed along with an awareness of available resources. The use of primary environmental sources is advocated. Means of implementation and recommendations are given for the curriculum. Appendices include a flowchart of the "Framework for the Production of a School Environmental Education Policy," and a listing of environmental organizations, with addresses. (ML)

New Ideas In Environmental Education written by Sálvano Briceño and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-16 with Education categories.

Originally published in 1988, this book was a plea for new approaches to environmental education. In the years prior to publication there had been a reappraisal of education and a growing awareness of the problems of environment and development. However, the movements had rarely met. The objective of this book was to present some of the ideas and the action that was taking place at the time. It was put forward for discussion because a major intergovernmental meeting took place in 1987, ten years on from the famous Tbilisi meeting, the world's first intergovernmental conference on environmental education. With environmental education still very much on the world’s agenda today, this title can be used as a resource to show where it all began.

Science Environment Health written by Albert Zeyer and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-25 with Science categories.

Health and the environment are important learning areas in science education and their significance is growing. Not only do they have high social relevance, but they are also close to students’ interests and needs. They provide many opportunities to unlock science with questions that are personally relevant to boys and girls and that inspire them to engage in science. This book contains a selection of papers from prominent professionals in science, health and environmental education, who reflect on science education, each from their specific point of view. The core idea is to present well-founded perspectives on how science education may benefit from challenges stemming from both health and environmental education. Specific reasons are discussed as to why these two areas are particularly legitimized to challenge science education, and their potential impact on a revision of science education is evaluated. A new pedagogy for science¦environment¦health that yields interesting and relevant science education for students and teachers, and addresses the grand challenges of this century: what an attractive and rewarding project! The book will motivate teachers, teacher educators and science education researchers to take part in this on-going project.
