In Antiquity, the Black Sea region was a meeting point for several different population groups with diverse cultural backgrounds. The present monograph takes its point of departure in burial data from four coastal localities in the northern region of the Black Sea. The mortuary practices are decoded and interpreted within a framework mainly based on concepts of cultural interaction rather than cultural polarisation. Thus, the dogma of 'The Greeks and the Others' is challenged, and alternative perceptions of interactions between the people in the Black Sea region form the basis of the study. The burials are primarily analysed with emphasis on social strategies and cultural diversity. Furthermore, the Black Sea region is set into a comparative perspective through an outlook on burial customs and mortuary practices in the colonial milieus of contemporary Southern Italy.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Tourism - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,7, (International University of Applied Sciences), language: English, abstract: In connection with globalization and the increasing willingness to interact interculturally, people are travelling more frequently, not only for business reasons or simply for holidays, but also to get a cultural insight into different parts of the world. Every culture has its own habits and observances, including everyday occurrences and of course special occasions. Cultural tourists try to look into those occasions, for example by taking part in the Holi Festival in India. On the basis of this theory, online questionnaires as well as expert interviews were conducted to find out whether the participation is harmful or beneficial to the given cultural celebration. Both research methods were solely distributed among Indians to get their perception. The results of the two different research tools clearly showed a positive impression towards cultural tourism in general, as well as tourists who participate in the Holi Festival. In fact, the cross-cultural interaction in form of celebrating the Festival of Colours together with foreigners predominantly is seen as a blessing for the celebration and everyone involved. Even though many limitations occurred to this study, the results are conclusive and built a basis for further research in the field.

Ranging broadly from Andrew Jackson to Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, Stuckey demonstrates how presidents accomplish the dual enactment of inclusion and exclusion through their rhetorical and political choices. Our early leaders were preoccupied with balancing the growing nation; later presidents were concerned with the nature and definitions of citizenship. By examining the political speeches of presidents exemplifying distinctly different circumstances, she presents a series of snapshots which, when taken together, reveal both the continuity and the changes in our national self-understanding.

"Designed to offer an appealing anthology where there is an increased general interest in connections between and among cultures, Across Cultures, Fifth Edition strives to promote understanding of diverse cultures. The book provides an extensive sampling of and advocates acceptance of a diversity of voices, while suggesting ways to probe the correspondences, interrelationships, and mutual benefits of that diversity. The selections cover an even greater variety of cultural facets than the table of contents indicates. For example, the readings in "Work," the subject of Chapter 4, lead students to consider related subjects such as affirmative action, immigration, cultural displacement, family narratives, and definitions of success. Throughout the text, readers are encouraged to draw connections between and among readings through "Correspondence" questions that accompany each selection, thus developing their critical thinking skills." For those interested in developing their critical thinking, reading and writing skills, while learning about cultural diversity.
