An analysis of good practices, research findings, lessons learned and resources identified across Europe in the area of digital citizenship: empowerment of children through education Most young people in Europe today were born and have grown up in the digital era. Education authorities have the duty to ensure that these digital citizens are fully aware of the norms of appropriate behaviour when using constantly evolving technology and participating in digital life. Despite worldwide efforts to address such issues, there is a clear need for education authorities to take the lead on digital citizenship education and integrate it into school curricula. In 2016, the Education Department of the Council of Europe began work to develop new policy orientations and strategies to help educators face these new challenges and to empower young people by helping them to acquire the competences they need to participate actively and responsibly in digital society. This second volume in the Digital Citizenship Education series contains the results of a multi-stakeholder consultation to identify good practices regarding digital citizenship education and the gaps and challenges to be met in formal and informal learning contexts. It examines the role the development of digital citizenship competence plays in education, considers the types of online resources and contemporary information technologies used in educational settings, and details the administrative and legal responsibilities for school leaders, teachers, students and parents.

Do we still believe in foreign aid and development education? As governments tend to cut down aid budgets and the public appears to take a more and more sceptical stand, not just the old way of campaigning is under pressure, but also the idea of the North helping the South as such. To materialize the hind-laying value of global solidarity in the present world, a radical re-thinking of the wornout concept of aid is required. Set against this paradox, this book explores the new notion of global citizenship and the challenges it represents. Self-contained chapters feature coverage of a range of issues: politics, opinion polls, education, the results agenda, private sustainability standards, framing messages for TV-broadcasting and the role of social media. As it is a long road to global citizenship, this book keeps you company for a part of the way.

Health Promotion Evaluation Practices In The Americas written by Louise Potvin and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-10-26 with Medical categories.

More and more, health promotion is a crucial component of public health, to the extent that public health interventions are called on to prove their effectiveness and appraised for scientific validity, a practice many in the field consider self-defeating. Health Promotion Evaluation Practices in the Americas cogently demonstrates that scientific rigor and the goals of health promotion are less in conflict than commonly thought, synthesizing multiple traditions from countries throughout North, Central, and South America (and across the developed-to-developing-world continuum) for a volume that is both diverse in scope and unified in purpose. The book’s examples—representing robust theoretical and practical literatures as well as initiatives from Rio de Janeiro to American Indian communities—explain why health promotion evaluation projects require different guidelines from mainstream evaluative work. The editors identify core humanitarian principles associated with health promotion (participation, empowerment, equity, sustainability, intersectoral action, multistrategy, and contextualism), while chapters highlight challenges that must be mastered to keep these principles and scientific objectives in sync, including: (1) Building health promotion values into evaluation research projects. (2) Expanding the use of evaluation in health promotion. (3) Developing meaningful evaluation questions. (4) Distinguishing between community-based participation research and evaluation-based participation. (5) Evaluating specifically for equity. (6) Designing initiatives to foster lasting social change. The applied knowledge in Health Promotion Evaluation Practices in the Americas: Values and Research can bring the goals of intervention into sharper focus for practitioners, evaluators, and decision-makers and facilitate communication on all sides—necessary steps to progress from study findings to real-world action.
